I've recently relocated to Portland and left a wonderful German meat market behind, so I cant tell you how happy I was to stumble (making some right hand turns, trying to avoid a left turn at rush hour) accross Edelweiss... I went in not expecting anything as wonderful as what I found there. First, since most meat counters are very rushed, I let several people go ahead as I looked things over. This was not neccessary, I soon found out, since there is absolutely no rush at all. When I saw how much time they took with each customer, I stepped up. I was offered generous samples of salami and was given plenty of time to decide. It made me feel like getting just the right salami was as important to them as to me...without the snootiness you find in some specialty markets. Very, very nice. On top of the great service, the meats were wonderful. Peppered ham, wine cured salami, and weiswurst... never eat a piece of ham thats been squeezed into an oval shape again.

"Best German Deli anywhere!"
We've been going to the Edelweiss for sausages and deli products for years - great variety and tasty. Today we 'ate in' at their small deli counter - smoked pork chops with hot german potato salad. Wow! Simple AND super tasty.

"Things European here in Portland"
I've lived in Europe for 15 years and come from German parents so european culture has been a big part of my life. Edelweiss Deli is about as close to getting european foods, magazines and a limited selection of other supplies as one can get in the Pacific NW. The Kassler smoked pork chops, leberkaes , hams and sausages are made fresh and taste a lot like food you would get in Germany...
